Relocating to Eastern Maryland

For this Local Professional and Volunteer,
Happiness Comes from Community Involvement

As a volunteer in the classroom, Merrilie teaches students the fundamentals of self-esteem and character development through Character Counts.

As Merrilie Ford strolls down the streets of Easton during the annual Waterfowl Festival, she breathes deeply, taking in the smell of the fried clams and hot mulled cider. It’s a cool November Saturday and for Merrilie, this time of year means duck decoys and community celebrations. With the festival in full swing and thousands of visitors crowding the blocked-off streets, Merrilie finds herself amidst a wonderful local happening. As she takes her time visiting each event, from the decoy auction to the fly fishing demonstrations, Merrilie hears the familiar sound of geese flying overhead.

An Annual Celebration
For Merrilie, being a part of the festival is something she looks forward to each year. “It’s more than just a festival, it’s an occasion where our community comes together to celebrate the uniqueness of the area,” she says. An event that showcases the spirit of the community, the festival gives Merrilie an opportunity to socialize with her neighbors and make new friends. “The festival is a chance for me to connect with the people in my community,” she notes.

Moving to Maryland’s Eastern Shore years ago, Merrilie found the idyllic setting. A rural atmosphere with D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia a short driving distance away, Easton has the charm of a small town with large metropolitan areas close by. Merrilie instantly connected with the community and wanted to find a way to make an impact. As a volunteer coach through Character Counts, a local program that teaches students self-esteem and character development, Merrilie has the chance to give back to the community she loves so much. “When you make an impact on a child, it’s one of the most gratifying feelings,” she says.

“The Eastern Shore of Maryland is so brimming with beauty, I wouldn’t live anywhere else. And with more than three decades as a real estate professional, I can halp you make the most of your experience here.”

Making an Impact
With such a drive to make an impact in the community she lives in, it’s fitting that Merrilie has been so successful in her career. As one of the premier real estate professionals on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, she puts her enthusiasm for the community she lives in and her dedication to making a difference in the lives of others to work for her clients. “It’s so important to connect with clients not only on a professional level, but on a personal level as well,” she says. “This is an exciting time for my clients, and being a part of it is very special.”

The Experience of a Pro
Combining more than three decades of experience in real estate with a vast knowledge of the local market and its complexities, Merrilie guides her clients through the decisions that come with purchasing or selling a home. A former high school English teacher, Merrilie calls upon her educational skills on a daily basis. “Communication is everything,” she says. “I give my clients all the information and instruction they need to be able to make sound decisions.” Additionally, she understands the importance of listening and connecting the goals and desires of her clients to the best strategy that leads to a successful experience.
